The First Berserker: Khazan, an upcoming action-RPG seemingly inspired by the Souls games and set in the Dungeons & Fighter (DNF) universe, has received a brand new gameplay trailer as part of the recent Xbox Partner Preview event. The gameplay is stylish, brutal and visceral, bringing a new edge to your typical Soulslike experience. No release date was given but it will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The gameplay trailer for The First Berserker: Khazan shows off some of the stylish combos you can pull off in this dark fantasy world. It will be a single-player action-RPG set in the DNF universe, which is quite different to the last major entry in the franchise, DNF Duel, which was a multiplayer fighting game. Either way, the combat is brutal and it has our attention, despite some framerate drops in the middle that might be a slight cause for concern. Hopefully it will be polished up before release.
The official description of The First Berserker: Khazan reads:
“Khazan and Ozma, the heroes who saved the Pell Los Empire from Hismar the Berserk Dragon and the Dragon Legion. However, General Khazan, falsely accused of treason, becomes a wretched outcast as he is condemned to exile beyond the empire through brutal torture. The player will become the hero ‘Khazan,’ the ancestor of all Slayers and the one who defeated Hismar the Berserk Dragon, proceeding to uncover the truth of his downfall within the empire.”
We’ve seen our fair share of great Soulslike games in the past, though The First Berserker: Khazan seems to be leaning more on the side of Devil May Cry in its high-energy, fast-paced action than your typical Souls title, even though the trailer shows what could be some staple features of Soulslikes such as bonfire-esque checkpoints and a focus on evading, parrying and punishing.
