The Game Awards 2024 Full Nominations Nominees

The Game Awards 2024 Breaks Viewership Record With 154 Million Views

The Game Awards held its 10th anniversary last week and broke its own viewership record in the process. 2024 was a particularly strong year for the glamorous gaming awards show created and hosted by Geoff Keighley. According to viewership stats, this year brought in 154 million views, up 31% from last year’s 118 million views.

With 154 million views this year, The Game Awards 2024 was not only the biggest gaming awards show of the year but the largest in the entire entertainment industry, overshadowing the Oscars, Grammys and Golden Globes viewerships by quite a margin. This is largely thanks to the fact that people can tune into The Game Awards via Twitch, YouTube and any number of online streaming sources while shows like the Oscars can only be watched on TV.

“Today we are humbled and thrilled to share that The Game Awards 10th Anniversary show delivered a historic 154 million global livestreams, our most watched show ever,” said Geoff Keighley on X. “Thanks to our incredible team, the industry and the fans for giving us your time and believing in TGA.”

A lot happened at The Game Awards this year to warrant its high viewership, to be fair. Apart from Astro Bot taking home Game of the Year, the show also featured a number of surprise announcements. CD Projekt Red brought a cinematic reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 while Capcom blew the lid open on its plans to revive Onimusha and Okami with new sequels, also promising to revive more dormant IP. From Software also announced Elden Ring Nightreign, a new co-op survival game that’s standalone and not DLC.

In case you missed it, have a look at the full list of winners at The Game Awards 2024, which includes wins for Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Balatro, Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and more titles.
