The Game Awards 2024 Sets December Date For 10th Anniversary

The Game Awards is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and ahead of event in December, host Geoff Keighley has shared a date. The Game Awards 2024 will take place on 12 December, streaming live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California once again.

Public tickets for The Game Awards will go on sale on 1 November. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, which has since grown to become the most-watched awards ceremony in the world, even surpassing viewership numbers for the Oscars. 2014’s debut of the awards show brought in 1.9 million viewers but that number has grown considerably with each year. For example, 2023’s show racked up a whopping 118 million livestreams.

Each year, viewers tune in to find out which of their favourite games have won across multiple categories including the coveted Game of the Year. Below is a list of each Game of the Year winner from previous Game Awards shows:

  • 2014: Dragon Age Inquisition
  • 2015: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  • 2016: Overwatch
  • 2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • 2018: God of War
  • 2019: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
  • 2020: The Last of Us Part II
  • 2021: It Takes Two
  • 2022: Elden Ring
  • 2023: Baldur’s Gate 3

Last year’s record-breaking show saw Baldur’s Gate 3 take home not only Game of the Year but also Best Performance (Neil Newbon as Astarion), Best RPG, Best Community Support, Player’s Voice and Best Multiplayer. Alan Wake 2 was the next big winner of the evening taking home Best Game Direction, Best Narrative and Best Art Direction. Final Fantasy XVI won Best Score and Music, Cyberpunk 2077 took home Best Ongoing Game and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took Best Action/Adventure Game.
