Fortnite fans are in for a treat this year as The Game Awards will once again invite players to cast their in-game votes for the Best Fortnite Island of 2024. The Game Awards founder and host Geoff Keighley will also appear virtually in the game as a MetaHuman.
The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite resides on its own island themed around the event, where Fortnite players around the world can vote in-game and help The Game Awards pick the Best Fortnite Island of 2024. This marks the second year in a row that this kind of special event is held in Fortnite, only this time, Geoff Keighley himself will appear virtually in the world as a MetaHuman.
The Game Awards broke down the event and process in a press release:
“The Game Awards Vote in Fortnite is a hub world that lets players portal to 10 creator made Islands that showcase the potential, creativity and innovation possible in Fortnite. After exploring the nominated islands, players can vote in-game for their favorite, as part of a special fan poll. The winner of the fan poll will be announced during The Game Awards, when it streams globally on Thursday, December 12 from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.”
In case you missed it, the nominations for The Game Awards was announced last week. Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth both lead the charge with seven nominations each, while Metaphor: ReFantazio trails close behind with six nominations across several categories. The coveted Game of the Year category this year consists of Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, Astro Bot and Balatro, which we’re quietly rooting for.
The Game Awards will take place on Thursday, 12 December at 4:30PM PST or Friday, 13 December at 2:30AM CAT. Watch the announcement trailer for Fortnite Island below:
