The Initiative Loses its Perfect Dark Game Director

Dan Neuburger, game director at The Initiative on the upcoming Xbox remake Perfect Dark has departed the studio. According to this LinkedIn profile, Neuburger is currently looking for work elsewhere for positions in design or director roles.

Dan Neuburger worked at The Initiative for almost four years and was previously the game director on the Tomb Raider series at Crystal Dynamics. While Crystal Dynamics is currently working on this new Perfect Dark project, Neuburger will no longer be part of it.

Sadly, the departure of Neuburger has many concerned regarding the game’s development. He marks the second major design employee to leave the studio in the past twelve months. The game has also been delayed and is now aiming to release at least a year later than expected.

In February 2021, design director Drew Murray revealed that he had left the studio to join his former employer Insomniac Games. Murray claimed that he left The Initiative due to “personal reasons”.

At the moment it is unclear how the development of the game is coming along. In December 2020, The Initiative picked up Marvel’s Avengers and Tomb Raider team at Crystal Dynamics to help develop Perfect Dark. However, since then we have not seen or heard anything about the game. Reports claim that Microsoft is getting ready to showcase Perfect Dark during its E3 2022 event in June.
