We know Intel has been working on its own range of GPUs for some time now. However, it seems like the company is ramping up to announce and release the hardware as early as Q1 2022. Intel is calling its own GPU line ” Intel Arc” which reportedly will cover all its gaming-based hardware and software on the market. The first GPU range is codenamed “Alchemist” and is expected to release in early 2022.

Intel plans on incorporating the Arc Alchemist GPUs into both desktops and notebooks. In theory, this Intel Arc Alchemist range will directly compete against both NVIDIA and AMD. With that being said, without any performance specs, it is still too early to tell how competitive these cards will be.

Intel has recently shared a teaser video showing off the new Arc Alchemist GPUs. The video teaser includes games such as Forza Horizon 4, Metro Exodus and PUBG. The teaser doesn’t go into detail on how these games are running or the settings they are using.

Previous reports claim that the Intel Arc Alchemist GPU range is capable of handling most modern-day rendering techniques. This includes mesh shading, variable refresh rate, real-time raytracing, video upscaling and more. Intel is also working on its own competitor to NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution. The algorithm will use AI-accelerated supersampling to increase the performance of games while providing higher resolution.

So it seems that everything you can get in an NVIDIA or AMD GPU will be available in the Intel Arc Alchemist range too. However, we still know very little about the GPU’s power and performance to determine just how of a threat the range will be to the other brands on the market.

Intel is also working on a handful of Arc GPUs that are expected to span a few generations. Arc Alchemist is just one of these models expected in 2022. The other Intel Arc GPUs include “Celestial”, “Battlemage” and “Druid”. All of these GPUs are expected to live alongside the company’s Iris Xe range which is a more affordable, notebook-friendly alternative. We recently benchmarked the Xe on the Huawei MateBook 14.
