The Last of Us Remake PS5 Reveal Release Date Leaked

The Last of Us PS5 Remake Release Date Potentially Leaked

The Last of Us Remake for PS5 was originally rumoured to be in development earlier this year with Naughty Dog helming the project. Now, as we get closer to Summer Game Fest, it looks like a potential reveal could happen at Geoff Keighley’s event. Another source has also seemingly leaked a release date of 2 September 2022 for the remake.

Rumours began circulating when Naughty Dog’s Josh Scherr recently replied to a Summer Game Fest tweet before deleting it. Another source, the mysterious Twitter account called “The Snitch” who accurately leaked the entire State of Play event hours before it aired, posted a cryptic tweet today simply stating “PART 1 – 02.09.2022” followed by a console controller and PC emoji.

Many read “PART 1” as meaning The Last of Us Remake, pinning its release date on 2 September 2022. It also appears to be coming to both PS5 and PC, judging by the emojis used.

Others have speculated that “PART 1” could be referring to a multitude of projects unrelated to The Last of Us. Some believe that this is actually referring to Hideo Kojima’s leaked horror game Overdose, which is believed to be episodic according to reports published last year. Others think it has nothing to do with The Last of Us as the first game has never been referred to as “Part 1”.

However, Scherr’s deleted tweet has fueled speculation about Naughty Dog appearing at Summer Game Fest tomorrow in some capacity. Whether this is actually for The Last of Us Remake or not remains to be seen. Keighley seems to be asking viewers to “manage their expectations” for the event after revealing that it will mostly focus on already announced games.

At this rate, we’ll simply have to tune into Summer Game Fest on 9 June at 8PM SAST to find out if there’s weight to any of these leaks.
