HBO’s The Last of Us series is currently in the process of hiring actors to play characters from the games for its anticipated second season. HBO recently hired No One Will Save You actress Kaitlyn Dever to play Abby and now, we have confirmation of which actors will be playing Dina and Jesse, two prominent characters from The Last of Us Part II video game which season 2 will be based on.
HBO has announced that Jesse will be played by Young Mazino, best known for playing Paul Cho in Netflix’s Beef. Mazino acted alongside Steven Yeun and Ali Wong in the award-winning series, though has a career that started in short films as far back as 2013. Jesse is described by HBO as “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at terrible cost.”

Meanwhile, Dina will be played by Isabela Merced, who is best known for playing Dora in Dora and the Lost City of Gold and starring in other movies like Transformers: The Last Knight and Sicario: Day of the Soldado. HBO describes Dina as “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.”
The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Season 2 will enter production soon and will likely adapt the events of The Last of Us Part II, which is a rather controversial game in the gaming community. Set some time after the events of the first game, it follows an older Ellie as she goes down a path of revenge after an unexpected tragedy.
Series showrunner Craig Mazin apparently has plans to adapt the games across four seasons, though it makes us wonder if the sequel’s story will be split into the second and third season. The first season largely covered the events of the first game.
