HBO has set a premiere date for the upcoming second season of The Last of Us. The network confirmed that The Last of Us Season 2 will debut on 13 April on HBO and Max. Up to now, we only assumed it would release in April, but the confirmation serves as the official release date now.
The second season has been a long time coming. The original first season wrapped up back in 2023 to critical acclaim. Show co-creator Craig Mazin has confirmed that this second season will cover the second video game in the series, The Last of Us Part II. However, he has stated that the second game will take multiple seasons to cover. So we will likely see this second season wrap up somewhere in the middle of the second game’s story.
We also know that The Last of Us Season 2 will be shorter than the first, with only seven episodes in total. It takes place five years after the events of the first game/season. Familiar faces from the first season will return, including Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. New faces include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Isabela Marced as Dina. Both play a major role in the upcoming season.
HBO has provided us with three character posters for the new season, which you can check out below. There isn’t a new trailer, so you’ll have to watch the one from last year underneath the posters. You can expect The Last of Us to release on Showmax in South Africa in April. We will confirm all the local details including episode rollout and timing closer to the debut.
