HBO apparently has an actress in mind to play Abby in the second season of The Last of Us. According to a new report, Booksmart actress Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to play the role. Before Bella Ramsey was cast as Ellie, Dever was a popular choice to play the character, though at age 27, she might’ve been a bit old to play Ellie. However, she’s now being eyed for Abby in season 2.
As reported by The InSneider, Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to play Abby in HBO’s second season of The Last of Us. Abby plays a central role in The Last of Us Part II video game and it makes sense that she’d have a presence in the adaptation’s second season as well. These talks haven’t been finalised yet so we recommend taking it with a pinch of salt until we get an official announcement from HBO.

The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin teased back in August that they already had an actress in mind to play Abby but stopped short of revealing who it was. If these reports are correct, then Mazin might’ve been talking about Dever but possibly couldn’t move forward without the SAG-AFTRA actors strike concluding first. We’ll have to wait and see if this pays off.
Kaitlyn Dever’s breakout role was 2019’s Booksmart but she’s gone on to appear in several TV shows and movies including Last Man Standing and this year’s alien horror movie, No One Will Save You.
HBO revealed that The Last of Us season 2 will officially enter production in early 2024. Due to the actors strike, production had to be delayed until the strike was resolved between actors and Hollywood executives. Now that the strike has concluded with new rules and regulations agreed upon by both parties, production on most shows and movies, including The Last of Us, can resume.
