Last November, we reported on actress Kaitlyn Dever potentially joining the cast of HBO’s The Last of Us series as Abby. We now have confirmation from HBO that Dever has been cast in the role for season 2. So far, her casting has been met with a positive reception as the actress not only has the talent but the looks to play the character too.
HBO describes Abby as a “skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those who loved.” For those who played The Last of Us Part II, Abby’s role in the game is rather controversial but one that’s essential to the story – especially in relation to Ellie’s character journey. Abby was originally voiced by Laura Bailey in the game.

The Last of Us series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said in a joint statement:
“Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material. Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family.”
Kaitlyn Dever’s breakout role was 2019’s Booksmart but she went on to appear in other projects such as Last Man Standing, Dopestick and last year’s alien horror movie No One Will Save You, which received a positive buzz surrounding her performance. Dever will join Bella Ramsey as Ellie and Pedro Pascal as Joel in the second season.
The Last of Us recently became the first video game adaptation to be nominated at the Golden Globes, though it didn’t score any awards on the night (you can check out the full list of winners here).
