Sir Elton John, who composed and performed several songs for the original film was not a fan of the latest Lion King remake released earlier this year according to a new interview with GQ. Sir Elton John says that Disney messed up the music and it ruined the entire film.

According to the interview, Sir Elton John admitted he was less than impressed with the finished product and the film was a “huge disappointment”.

I wish I’d been invited to the party more, but the creative vision for the film and it’s music was different this time around and I wasn’t really welcomed or treated with the same level of respect. This statement goes a long way as Sir Elton John worked alongside Disney during the Lion King remake’s production to rework some classic songs alongside Tim Rice. The composer also created a new song just for the closing credits of the film. However, Sir Elton John wished he could have contributed more to Disney and The Lion King in terms of the musical aspects of the picture.
Elton John did state that he is happy that the “right spirit” for the music lives on with the Lion King stage musical even if the film was a complete bust for him.
Even with the negative reviews, The Lion King remake was a massive success for Disney beating Frozen and becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
