This morning during the 95th Academy Awards show, Disney released the first official trailer for the live-action rendition of The Little Mermaid. The movie has been in production since early 2022 and we even got a teaser snippet soon after its reveal. However, as the 26 May release date draws closer, fans have wanted more. We now have that more.
The trailer gives us a glimpse at the film’s story and most importantly, the key cast of characters. Up to now, we have only known of a few stars appearing in the movie and the trailer finally puts faces on their roles. We have Melissa McCarthy as the Sea Witch Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton and Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric.

Jacob Tremblay voices Flounder, who we didn’t really get to see much in the trailer. Daveed Diggs voices Sabastian and Awkwafina voices Scuttle.
The trailer doesn’t seem to deviate from the original story of The Little Mermaid. Arielle is a mermaid who dreams about life on the land after rescuing Prince Eric from a shipwreck. Sea Witch Ursula makes this possible by stealing her voice in exchange for her legs.
