The Marvels Gets February Release Date on Disney Plus

Disney Plus will add The Marvels to the service on 7 February giving subscribers the opportunity to watch the movie through their active subscription. The Marvels launched in cinemas in late 2023 and it was Disney’s lowest Marvel MCU debut to date.

The film grossed $206 million globally according to Box Office MoJo. However, Disney reportedly spent over $320 million on the film’s production and marketing resulting in quite a loss.

The lacklustre performance of The Marvels comes off the bat of other recent Disney and Marvel films which haven’t done too well. The industry was recently crippled by the SA-AFTRA strike as well as the ongoing audience fatigue brought on by the ever-developing MCU.

Critics blamed the film’s failure on this bigger problem saying that “Disney’s been making garbage, which makes people less inclined to watch new stuff on the off chance it’s garbage too”. Even with the low global gross, The Marvels did manage to sit at 82% on Rotten Tomatoes on audience score. The general review scores were also okay. However, that doesn’t mean the film would draw enough people into cinema to watch it.

You’ll be able to watch The Marvels on Disney Plus on 7 February in South Africa.
