When fans buy tickets to see the latest movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they’re usually expecting at least a two-hour run time as most of them tend to breach that mark or even clock in closer to three hours, like Avengers: Endgame. However, a new leak suggests that the upcoming MCU movie The Marvels could be one of the shortest in the franchise yet.
According to popular run time leaker Cryptic4KQual, who has a good track record of leaking the lengths of The Mandalorian‘s third season and Ahsoka, The Marvels will apparently have a run time of 1 hour and 38 minutes (or 1 hour and 33 minutes if we exclude credits). However, the leaker stresses that this run time isn’t final and a new cut could either increase or decrease that length.
To put that into perspective, the shortest MCU movie right now is The Incredible Hulk, which still borders on two hours as it has a run time of 1 hour and 52 minutes. If The Marvels really has a considerably shorter run time, that would be a big surprise considering that the movie will feature a number of superheroes including Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau (aka Photon).
Back in June, Marvel Studios delayed several MCU movies including Avengers: Secret Wars. The Marvels director Nia DaCosta stated in a previous interview with Total Film that she has no idea what Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel will do in the upcoming Avengers movies:
“I have lots of thoughts. But I actually have no idea what they’re going to do in the Avengers movies. I do know that those guys who are doing that watch the films, see what we’re doing. I have things I really want [to happen]. But I’m not sure.”
In related news, Joe and Anthony Russo, the directing duo behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, said that they won’t return to the MCU until at least 2030 as they tackle other non-superhero projects.
The Marvels currently has a release date of 10 November 2023.
