It seems that PS5 owners are going to be getting some sort of Matrix “experience” around the launch of the upcoming The Matrix Resurrections movie. A demo has leaked on the PlayStation Network called The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience that hints at a possible video game tie-in.

While there are absolutely no details yet on what this content is, the leaked image shows the series’ font with the word “Unreal Engine 5” experience in bold. The image was found on the PlayStation Network and it is listed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive product.

One interesting thing to note is the use of Unreal Engine 5 for this project. While the engine exists, Epic Games only announced it last year in May. However, up to now, we have not seen any real gameplay or content released to the public that has been built on the newer game engine. We know that developers are working on games using Unreal Engine 5 but there isn’t much to see at the moment.

The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience

This The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience might be our first real look at the engine running on the PS5. While it doesn’t seem to be a game, hopefully, it is interactive enough to give us some idea of how the engine runs on the hardware.

At the moment, it is safe to assume that whatever The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience is, it will tie into the upcoming film. The Matrix Resurrections is set to launch on HBO Max on 22 December so expect a full announcement on this project soon. We also have The Game Awards kicking off on 9 December so that event will most likely host the reveal for this experience app.
