Seagate is releasing a new FireCuda 530 M.2 SSD later this year that boasts some incredible speeds. If anything, it is now one of the fastest solid-state drives on the market even faster than Sony’s proprietary PS5 SSD. At the moment, the Seagate FireCuda 530 M.2 SSD is only coming to high-end gaming PCs and packs a read rate of 7.3 gigabytes per second.
Up to now, the PS5 boasted one of the fastest SSDs on the market at 5.3GB/s but the new Seagate FireCuda 530 M.2 SSD beats it by 25%. However, on paper, the speeds might be faster but the custom controller inside the PS5 is extremely powerful and its ability to compress data means the SSD can actually reach 8-9GB/s of reading speeds.

With that being said, the Seagate FireCuda 530 M.2 SSD does mean that PCs will get a boost in speed when it comes to the available M.2 SSD products on the market. You are going to have to pay for it though. Seagate says the SSD is going to retail for around $480 for the 2TB model. The smaller models then start at $140 for the 500GB and $240 for a 1TB. You can also opt for a whopping 4TB model for $950.
It just goes to show how much value for money we are getting in a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for it to pack a 1TB SSD with these speeds all for $399. We can’t really complain.
