The Nintendo Switch 2 will be announced this Thursday. No, for real this time. While Nintendo hasn’t confirmed the showcase just yet, multiple reports from basically every media outlet can confirm that the unveiling will take place on Thursday, 16 January.
Nintendo is expected to begin teasing the Switch 2 reveal on Wednesday, 15 January, where the company will confirm the Thursday showcase. We don’t have any timing for the announcement and teaser at this stage.
More details claim that Nintendo will focus solely on the actual Switch 2 console during its initial reveal this week. The company won’t announce many software titles during the showcase. It is then expected to host a bigger game-focused showcase next month ahead of the console’s release in March.
At the moment, we don’t know how deep this reveal will go. We aren’t sure if Nintendo will announce a set release date for the Switch 2 and if there will be any pricing announced during the event.
We can likely expect the announcement to go live in the afternoon sometime in South Africa. Nintendo usually hosts its Direct streams around 16:00/17:00 CAT. I suspect the time slot suits multiple territories.
We will share the full when and where to watch information as soon as it goes live. If Nintendo skips the teaser, we’ll then share the console information.
The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal has been a long time coming. For over a year, we have been reporting on the new console, which has suffered major internal delays. Nintendo was originally expected to launch the Switch 2 in 2024. However, the company delayed the launch to prepare a stronger game lineup and ensure there’s enough stock of the console to meet the launch demand.
Since then, the console has leaked in mostly every shape and form. The biggest leaks came out of CES 2025, where accessory maker GENKI showcased an entire video of the console. We also had multiple looks at the Joy-Con 2 controller and its changes which confirm mouse functionality.
At least after this week’s reveal, we’ll finally be able to put all the speculation to rest. Then the waiting game for the launch begins.
