Nintendo Switch 2 USE THIS ONE

The Nintendo Switch 2 Works With a USB Mouse

You’ll be able to use a USB mouse on your Nintendo Switch 2 if you choose not to opt for the Joy-Con 2 method. Nintendo hasn’t announced USB support for the console, but according to Koei Tecmo, who recently hosted a special developer’s preview for the upcoming Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition, the console does support it.

During the developer interview, game producer Michi Ryu shared some information on the Switch 2 development, as well as gameplay, and how the game works with the console. During the video, he seamlessly stops and plugs in a USB mouse, after which a message popped up on the console saying “a mouse has been connected”.

Ryu then continues to play the game demo using this USB mouse. He even switches back and forth between using the Joy-Con as a mouse in his left hand and using the actual USB mouse.

Keep in mind that keyboard and mouse support isn’t relatively “new” for the Switch. The original console did support the accessories but only in very specific circumstances in certain games. However, Nintendo has fully embraced the mouse support on the Switch 2 console.

Users can navigate through the UI, interact with various options, and play a number of games using only the mouse. Matroid Prime 4: Beyond is one game that seamlessly supports the Joy-Con 2 mouse, which could confirm it supports the USB mouse too. You can launch up the game and play the FPS from start to finish in a “mouse to aim” set up.

You can watch the demo below where Michi Ryu plays the game using a USB mouse. It’s strange that he is the first developer to reveal this information. Perhaps devs simply didn’t think it was a big deal? But with a game like Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening Complete Edition, it kind of seems like it was built for a mouse.

I got hands-on with the Nintendo Switch 2 last month and tested out the Joy-Con 2 mouse support. While it worked flawlessly in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, I did struggle with the Joy-Con 2’s size not fitting into my larger hands. You can read all about my experience with the console here.

. Nintendo is expected to launch the Switch 2 on 5 June. The official specs and detailed breakdown of the hardware were covered last week. Be sure to also catch up on our pre-order guide, the full list of announced games, and all the games that will be released at launch and after here.
