The Order 1886 developer Ready at Dawn has been shut down by Meta. The studio was also responsible for games like Daxter, God of War: Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta and the VR-exclusive Lone Echo series. According to another report, Ready at Dawn had plans in place to develop a sequel to The Order 1886 but it seems like that isn’t moving forward anymore.
As reported by Android Central, Meta has shut down Ready at Dawn. An internal memo was apparently sent out to employees at the company yesterday announcing the tragic news. Meta is encouraging the laid off developers to join other teams under the Oculus Studios umbrella. The cuts weren’t made to “save money” but rather to ensure that Oculus Studios can continue its long-term development of new VR projects.
Twitter/X user Shinobi602, a known leaker who seems to have some inside information, claimed that Ready at Dawn were in the process of working on an “awesome sequel” to The Order 1886. An engine was already in place as a greater focus was going to be put on the gameplay, possibly giving the sequel a massive leap over its predecessor. It seems like the sequel was at least in development before Meta acquired the studio, so we don’t know how much more progress was made on it afterwards.
From what I knew, they had awesome plans in place for a sequel to The Order before Meta got them. With the engine already in place (which took up a ton of time and resources in the first one), they were going to put everything into the gameplay experience next. I bet we could…

The studio’s closure follows a round of layoffs in April 2023 by Meta, apparently leading to one-third of the entire staff being terminated.
