The Outer Worlds 2 $80 Xbox Price Obsidian Entertainment

The Outer Worlds 2 is Xbox’s First $80 Game

The Outer Worlds 2 made an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase last night with a lengthy presentation held by Obsidian Entertainment after the show that went into details about the sci-fi RPG sequel. After Nintendo fired the first shot at raising video game prices to $80 with Mario Kart World, Microsoft announced that it would be following suit. Now, we have confirmation that when The Outer Worlds 2 launches later this year, it will be Xbox’s first $80 game.

The Outer Worlds 2 promises to be a bigger and bolder sequel than the first game. Obsidian Entertainment went into detail about the upcoming sequel, boosting its RPG elements while doubling down on its satirical edge about corporate capitalism and social commentary. However, fans will have to decide if all those improvements will be worth spending $80 on later this year when it launches at an increased price for the standard edition. A Premium Edition, which includes the base game and a DLC pass, will cost $100.

Mario Kart World is already available on the Nintendo Switch 2 at a price point of $80, making it the first video game to take that leap. However, it’s likely that the rest of the gaming industry will soon follow in its footsteps by raising the prices of games by another $10 – up from the $70 prices already raised at the beginning of the current console generation. Last month, Gearbox Software danced around the question if Borderlands 4 will see that price increase.

However, Xbox has announced that The Outer Worlds 2 will cost $80 with more of its AAA first-party titles likely to be priced similarly. The biggest offset here is the fact that it will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass, meaning players will still have a somewhat affordable way to access the game without coughing up premium dollar. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for PS5 players who will unfortunately have to pay the full price to enjoy the game.

The Outer Worlds 2 launches on 29 October 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Make sure you check out everything else announced at the Xbox Games Showcase.
