The Outlast Trials Announced – A Co-op Survival Horror From Red Barrels

Developer Red Barrels is known for the horrifying, brutal stealth/survival Outlast franchise and while the second game didn’t go down all that well, many gamers still love the franchise and the awesome scares the games provide. Now, Red Barrels have announced a new Outlast game called The Outlast Trials and it seems to take things in a bit of a different direction.

The game isn’t your standard solo experience and instead will be a co-op survival horror. It is also not a direct sequel to the second title, taking place in the middle of the Cold War era, where players are thrown into the boots of test subjects of a mysterious experiment.

Not much else is known about the game right now. Red Barrels did announce the new Outlast game on Facebook, explaining that:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#33FFEE” class=”” size=”20″]The Red Barrels team is excited to announce our latest project in the Outlast universe. Set in the era of the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors that await by themselves or with fellow test subjects. The Outlast Trials is still in production, and as our co-founder David Chateauneuf puts it: “Now we’ve done our proof of concept, it is time to focus on content creation, variety… and gore.”[/perfectpullquote]

At the time of writing, no release date or even platforms have been confirmed for the game, as it is still in the early stages of development. It does, however, sound a bit like Resident Evil: Project Resistance from Capcom.
