A new event has arrived in The Outlast Trials just in time for Halloween. The event called “Geister” adds themed items to collect through a new catalogue, challenges to complete and a new MK-Challenge featuring a shorter trial.
The new MK-Challenge is called Eliminate in the Past and sees players shred documents detailing Murkoff Corporation’s history of war crimes. As a result, players will “earn” their escape by proving their alliance to Murkoff. The program also adds new Variators to existing trials including the following:
- EXTRACT ORGAN SAMPLES. Find deceased Reagents and extract organ samples for analysis.
- HALLUCINATIONS? Are they side effects from Murkoff’s therapies, or is something more nefarious at play?
- MORE IMPOSTERS. More Imposters in the Trial: Violent adversaries that look like your teammates and mimic their nameplates.
- NO PLAYER NAMES. Player names are hidden, making Imposters more potent and harder to detect. (Intensive and Psychosurgery Difficulties)
- ENRAGED ENEMIES. Enemies are on high alert! (Intensive and Psychosurgery Difficulties)
When you’re not completing the new Trial, players can participate in the Tennis minigame – a digital minigame created by Murkoff.
The Outlast Trials Geister event will launch in two parts. Part 1 is available now and runs up until 12 November. Part 2 will launch on 12 November and run until the 26th. Throughout the event, players can unlock Event Tokens, Tamps and a random Geister item.
The Outlast Trials is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It is one of my surprise hits for the year. You can read my full review here.
To summarise all the new content:

- New Trial Difficulty Variators: See the press release for a detailed list.
- Improved Jumpscares: When your sanity wanes, receive a visit from the Skinner Man…
- New Tasks (side-objectives that earn you in-game cosmetic currency): Tasks are divided into two parts, with each task rewarding Event Tokens, Stamps, and a random Geister item. Complete Part 1 of the Geister tasks to unlock Part 2.
- New Lobby Minigame: Tennis, an in-world version of the game Pong (1972).
