The People in Gran Turismo 7 Are Straight Out of a Nightmare

Gran Turismo 7 is a beautiful game. The cars are incredibly detailed and even little attention to detail including the bumps on the brake lights shine bright thanks to the power of the PS5. However, while you’re out and about on the track, taking in the sights and experiencing the wonderful weather effects, little do you know that there’s a nightmare staring right at you from the sidelines – the people of Gran Turismo 7.

Racing games haven’t had the best track history (get it?) with spectators. Some past games such as Forza Motorsport 7 even included PNG image cutouts of people standing on the side of the track to give the player an idea of a crowd watching them speed across the tar. Gran Turismo 7, on the other hand, uses extremely low-poly 3D models and some PNG images. So low-poly that they belong in a PlayStation One game.

In fact, there’s a mix-match of some PNG images and low-poly people in Gran Turismo 7 and it looks weird. Don’t get me wrong, some of these 3D models are pretty impressive considering these people are positioned quite far back into the distance and you’ll probably never even notice them. However, if you decide to use the camera during the game replay to walk around and look at them, don’t be surprised to see some shocking results.

The Verge took the time to snap a handful of people in Gran Turismo 7 so you don’t have to. Instead, you can look at them down below. Gran Turismo 7 is out today on PS4 and PS5. You can read our full review of the game here.
