The PlayStation 5 Won’t Get Released in the Next 12 Months

Earlier this month, Sony surprised us all by mentioning the next-gen PlayStation and even giving us some specifications to go along with it. The specifications, including that the PlayStation 5 will support Ray Tracing and boast a super-fast SSD, sounds extremely exciting and I, for one, can’t wait to get my hands on one. However, those who thought that the PlayStation 5 could release in 2019 will be a bit disappointed, as Sony has revealed the PlayStation 5 will not release before April 2019.

This is according to the Wall Street Journal’s tech reporter, Takashi Mochizuki, who tweeted out some important information from the fiscal year (which ended on 31 March 2019) report.

In the report which you can read in full here, Sony also revealed some extremely impressive statistics for those who love sales numbers. Sony shipped 17.8 million consoles between April 2018 and March 2019 which is higher than its competitors. The lifetime PS4 units shipped, therefore, sit at 96.8 million units as of 31 March 2019.

It is also extremely clear that Sony thinks the PS4 still has a lot of life left in it, as Sony expects to have 112.8 million PS4’s shipped before 31 March 2019, way above that glorious 100 million number. The PS4 is still selling amazingly, so it does make sense that the PS5 will only release a year or more from now.
