The Pokemon Company NFTs Metaverse

The Pokemon Company is Dabbling in NFTs and The Metaverse

The Pokemon Company might be dabbling in NFTs and the metaverse. A new job listing posted by the company is seeking someone “deeply connected to a network of investors” with experience in NFTs, blockchain and the metaverse. This isn’t confirmation that we’ll be getting Pokemon NFTs anytime soon but it sure sounds like The Pokemon Company has plans to implement and use the technology in some capacity.

As spotted by Video Games Chronicle, the job listing description seeks a corporate development principal with “deep knowledge and understanding of Web 3, including blockchain technologies and NFT, and/or metaverse.” It also adds that the employee should be “deeply connected to a network of investors and entrepreneurs in the technology sectors above (Web3 and metaverse).”

NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, have been extremely divisive in the gaming community (and even that might be an understatement). Essentially, NFTs are units of data stored on a blockchain which allows users to buy and sell digital products and claim ownership of them via a receipt. Among other mediums, art has been prominently featured as NFTs.

Gaming companies like Ubisoft, Sega and Konami have all expressed interest in exploring the NFT space despite being met with harsh criticism online. While Ubisoft has been relatively quiet since the Ghost Recon Breakpoint NFT fiasco, Square Enix is still firm on its stance to push NFTs and blockchain technology for future projects.

If these signs are any indication, it sounds like The Pokemon Company is very interested in getting into the trend which has all but left the mainstream eye since the value and interest of NFTs in gaming deteriorated over the past year. Other sectors of the market are still thriving (kind of) but it’s clear that gamers aren’t welcoming NFTs at all. Maybe it works out for The Pokemon Company and we get Pokemon NFTs that become a success. We’ll just have to see the public reaction in the days to come.
