It might have taken Amazon a bit longer to announce the next season of The Rings of Power but the show is set to return with a third season sometime in the future. The studio confirmed the news in a press release saying that The Rings of Power season 3 will kick off filming in the coming months.
Amazon says since its debut, The Rings of Power has pulled in 170 million viewers worldwide and continues to be one of Amazon’s strongest drivers for new Prime sign-ups. In short, people love the show and are willing to subscribe to the Amazon Prime membership to watch it.
The Rings of Power Season 2 reworked much of the weaker aspects of the first season. The second season also took a much darker approach to the story. This is likely intentional as the show is working its way closer to the events of The Lord of the Rings.
We don’t know where Amazon will take the show in the third season. The studio hinted at a few events we could expect saying:
Jumping forward several years from the events of the past season, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.
Preproduction has already kicked off so we will likely hear more about the story and setting in the months ahead. It is going to take a while to get the show ready for the public. I doub’t we’ll see it debut until at least late 2026.
