EA Games and Maxis has announced that The Sims 4 base game will be free for all players to download on mac, P, Origin, Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S next month. The company says the free game is launching on 18 October, the day after the studio hosts the Behind The Sims Summit.
While it is still too early to confirm that the Behind The Sims Summit will play host to a reveal of The Sims 5, early reports suggest EA is gearing up to announce the sequel to the biggest sim game around.
For those of you who already own the base game on any of the platforms listed above, EA is giving you the Desert Luxe Kit gift. The kit includes a modern oasis with luxurious indoor and outdoor furniture inspired by the landscape of the Southwestern desert. The furniture is designed with a lot of wood and stone material.

While this free-to-play The Sims 4 news is great, don’t expect to walk into the game without being bombarded by the dozens upon dozens of DLC packs available for the game. If anything the base game offers a small percentage of The Sims experience in comparison to the content locked behind paywalls. EA hasn’t been shy milking The Sims 4 community for years with furniture packs, cosmetic packs and the larger expansions. This free game is likely a way to get players to start their Sims experience before splurging on this content.
So if you’re new to The Sims 4, you can download the free base game starting on 18 October. We will share all the announcements that come out of EA’s Behind The Sims Summit kicking off on 18 October at 19:00 CEST on YouTube here.
