Frogwares has officially announced The Sinking City 2, a sequel to 2019 mystery game heavily inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. The game is expected to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles as well as PC sometime in 2025, though due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, Frogwares (which is based in Ukraine) has urged fans to help support the game’s development via Kickstarter.
The Sinking City 2 was announced as part of the recent Xbox Partner Preview event, which showcased a handful of new and announced games. “The Sinking City 2 is a terrifying Lovecraftian journey, powered by Unreal Engine 5. Experience a heart-pounding survival horror as you explore the flooded city of Arkham and fight eldritch monsters beyond human comprehension,” reads the official description.
Judging by the reveal trailer, it seems like the sequel is leaning more into survival horror than a detective mystery game like its predecessor. This fits well with the cosmic horror established by Lovecraft – it’s also rare that we get to see Lovecraftian terror fully realised in the genre as a pure survival horror video game experience.
Frogwares urged fans to support the development of The Sinking City 2 via a Kickstarter campaign that will go live soon. This will ensure that development on the game will run smoothly and deal with any potential disruptions by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The developer stated:
“Folks, unfortunately, the Russian invasion still rages on, and that’s why we need your help. We are launching a Kickstarter campaign for The Sinking City 2 soon. With your support, we can make the best game possible while also dealing with any potential disruptions we cannot predict!”
The Sinking City 2 is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s expected to launch in 2025. Check out the reveal trailer below:
