The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer is Here and Mario Doesn’t Even Sound Italian

Nintendo and Universal Studios released the first trailer for the anticipated “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” last night and while fans could not wait to see Bowser in glorious animated sexiness, many also sat in wait for Chris Pratt’s debut as Mario. Sadly, Mario doesn’t even sound like Mario in the movie. In fact, Chris Pratt, who has hyped up this so-called “unique and authentic” voice for the Italian plumber for months now, sounds just like Chris Pratt.

You can tell in the trailer that many of the voice artists, including Jack Black who plays Bowser, put a lot of effort into portraying their roles and the Koopa King. However, by the sound of things, Chris Pratt just walked into the recording booth and spoke into the mic using the same voice he has used for all his Starlord roles in The Guardians of the Galaxy.

Anyone who knows anything about Mario would know that he is Italian and every single game he has appeared in featured a distinct Italian accent because you know…. He is Italian!

Chris Pratt did recently state that his Mario voice would be “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world” and he wasn’t lying. We haven’t heard Mario feature a boring middle-aged white man’s voice in the past so that makes sense now. Oh well…

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Beyond Chris Pratt destroying everything we have known about Mario up to now, The Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer looked superb. The trailer definitely captures the magic of the series and revealed so many popular characters including Toad, Bowser, Luigi and more. This was only the teaser trailer so expect a lot more to come out of the movie as we leak up to its release date next year. The film is being produced by Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind the Despicable Me series.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to premiere in cinemas on 7 April 2023.
