The Witcher 3 Update to Remove “Unintended” Realistic Nudity

A recent update for the current-gen versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt “unintentionally” added realistic nudity and body parts into the game. CD Projekt Red is now working on an update to remove these NSFW models, which showed detailed private parts and textures for certain characters in the game.

The latest update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S might’ve accidentally added realistic body parts and models into the game via an update last month. CD Projekt Red confirmed that these were not intentional as they were merely community-sourced mods that the studio experimented with internally. It somehow made it into the latest update, but a fix is now on the way to remove the nudity slip-ups from the game.

An NSFW photo shared on Reddit showed the results of the latest update for The Witcher 3. Basically, the human forms for the Crones of Crookback Bog are shown with extremely realistic private parts. In the original game, the private parts were smoothed over with slight censorship. Players also reported that the bruxae you fight throughout the game also have detailed and quite realistic nudity.

CD Projekt Red provided a statement to Kotaku addressing the “unintended” nudity:

“The next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt features several community-sourced mods not created by CD Projekt Red, on top of numerous enhancements created and implemented by the studio internally. Merging everything together was a complex process and the textures in question are an unintended result present in the release version.”

Nudity isn’t uncommon in The Witcher games, but some caution was taken to avoid adding too realistic models, possibly in order to sidestep any potential backlash from ratings boards. It’s fine for studios to experiment with community mods internally for references, but the fact that it actually made it into an update is a bizarre mistake.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
