The Witcher 4 2025 CD Projekt Red Release

The Witcher 4 Will Be ‘Better, Bigger, Greater’ Than Witcher 3 Says CDPR

CD Projekt Red is currently hard at work on The Witcher 4 (or as it’s known by its codename, Project Polaris). The company recently confirmed that it had entered full-scale production on the highly anticipated sequel, though it could still be years before we see anything. Learning from some of the shortcomings of the past, CD Projekt Red has revealed that The Witcher 4 will be “better, bigger, greater” than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077.

Speaking to Eurogamer in a recent interview, CD Projekt vice president of technology Charles Tremblay spoke candidly about trying to make The Witcher 4 better than the third game in the series while also learning from the mistakes of Cyberpunk 2077, notably its abysmal launch which not only arrived in a broken, unoptimised state but CDPR also received backlash for the way it mishandled the game’s review process.

“The next game we do will not be smaller, and it will not be worse,” said Tremplay. “It will be better, bigger, greater than The Witcher 3, it will be better than Cyberpunk because for us, it’s unacceptable. We don’t want to go back.”

Tremblay speaks a big game for The Witcher 4 which should put the minds of fans at ease for now. “Even if there will be some ‘sweaty moments’ and maybe even some bad stuff happening,” Tremblay added. “I think that we will try everything we can to make it even more than what we achieved in the past years.”

As for what we know about The Witcher 4, former protagonist Geralt of Rivia will appear in the game but he won’t be the main character this time. Fans speculate that we might either play as Ciri as the next protagonist or have the option to create a custom character, similar to Cyberpunk 2077. It will be interesting to see how CDPR approaches the next game, though we’ll likely have to wait a few more years for information.
