Netflix has released a new trailer for season 3 of The Witcher which will mark the final performance of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. Part one of the season will premiere on 29 June though it will be followed by part two four weeks later on 27 July.
Netflix confirmed that The Witcher‘s third season will cover eight episodes broken down into two “volumes”, each containing four episodes. Season 3 will adapt author Andrzej Sapkowski’s second book in The Witcher series, Time of Contempt. Series creator and showrunner Lauren Hissrich teased some epic moments to come, stating “That said, for any fans who are familiar with The Time of Contempt novel, there’s an epic event that explodes the Continent as we know it–the lead-up to which provided a perfect cliff-hanger for us. We couldn’t have planned it better.”

Hissrich also provided a short synopsis for what fans can expect with The Witcher season 3:
“For years, Geralt has claimed neutrality, shunned politics and publicly asserted that witchers don’t have emotions–all to make his life as a killer easier to navigate. We’ve seen him battle monsters and monstrous humans; we’ve watched as he’s hardened himself in order to survive. This season, he can no longer do that.”
Season 3 will be the final run for Henry Cavill’s portrayal as Geralt of Rivia. Thereafter, he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the leading role from season 4 onwards. Details are a bit murky about why Cavill chose to resign from the role (or if Netflix terminated his contract), though many believe that Cavill was let go due to creative conflicts over the direction of the series. Cavill reportedly fought to make the adaptation more faithful to the source material while Netflix executives allegedly pushed for changes.
Either way, make sure you tune into season 3 of The Witcher in June before most viewers inevitably drop off for season 4. Check out the trailer below:
