The Witcher Season 2 Review

The Witcher Season 5 Will Be The Last Season Says Netflix

Netflix has confirmed that season 5 of The Witcher will be the last season of the series. Season 4 has already kicked off production with Liam Hemsworth taking on the role of Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill left the show. A fifth season was confirmed (which will also star Hemsworth) but the streaming service let fans know that it would be the last one.

According to Netflix, season 4 and season 5 of The Witcher will adapt the last three Andrzej Sapkowski books: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake. Liam Hemsworth will make his debut on the series as Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill, who previously played the character, left the show due to unknown reasons – though many suspect that Cavill might’ve clashed with producers after they reportedly mocked the source material.

The Witcher creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said in a statement:

“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit – stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

It will be interesting to see the reception of the next two seasons, especially after fans expressed their disdain for the show since Cavill’s departure. This led to an outcry for Cavill to be reinstated in the series and have the writing team replaced, though Netflix didn’t budge with the demands. While season 1 and 2 were mostly well-received, the cracks began to show after the third season landed to a very mixed reception among viewers.

The Witcher season 4 is currently in production.
