Yesterday, a rumour from a whistleblower on Reddit surfaced claiming that development on The Wolf Among Us 2 wasn’t progressing smoothly at Telltale Games. The biggest claim was that the sequel was at risk of being cancelled. Telltale Games has now come forward to address the cancellation rumours, assuring fans that development is still ongoing on the title despite the recent report.
A Telltale Games representative provided a statement to Eurogamer addressing The Wolf Among Us 2‘s cancellation rumours, stating, “As a rule, we don’t comment on rumors and unsubstantiated Reddit threads. But development on The Wolf Among Us 2 continues, and we’re excited to share more about the game with Telltale fans and our community when the time is right.”
The Reddit post claimed that development was at a “critical point” and discussions were being had internally about potentially shelving the game due to budget constraints. Those claims have now been refuted by Telltale Games, which is good news for fans who were a little concerned about the disheartening rumour.
Back in April 2024, Telltale Games said it was quiet because the studio was keeping its head down while focusing on The Wolf Among Us 2. “We’ve been quiet because we’ve been heads down, focusing on the promise of TWAU2. While we can’t give a big update yet, here’s a little something for you,” said Telltale in a forum post before sharing new images from the game.
There’s currently no release date for the long-awaited sequel. When the game was announced in 2022, it was aiming for a 2023 release window. Unfortunately, it missed that window and slipped into 2024. At this rate, it will likely slip into 2025 as well. The most fans can do now is simply wait until the studio has more information to share or it’s ready to push ahead with a release date it’s confident in.
