Thor: Love and Thunder has finally dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming fourth film in the series and the long wait has certainly paid off.
The trailer highlights a many beautiful callback and easter eggs from Tessa Thompsons King Valkyrie, Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as a host of other subtle nods to Marvel Comics, including Jane Foster as Lady Thor.

Taika Waitit’s long-awaited sequel to Thor: Ragnarok drops this July (2022) and will see a different side to Thor than we have been given in the past movies. Here Thor is on a journey to discover “who he really is” stating that he will “choose his own path” as his “superheroing days are over”.
The last statement hints at Love and Thunder being a showcase of Thor’s many earlier adventures that we see in the Marvel Comics. The beginning of the trailer even shows Thor running in a heavily-inspired Jack Kirby Thor costume that is most often seen in early adventures of Thor as well as working out to lose his Lebowski aesthetic with a hat that states “The Strongest Avenger”.
The trailer overall also has a pretty ’70s/’80s style to it with fonts, colouring, and soundtrack so I think we can expect the humour and nostalgia to hit quite hard. We also see Thor get a host of new costume upgrades including his super-duper suit but the sleeveless leather jacket with blue pants fits him naturally with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Korg has also received a costume upgrade with what looks like multi-coloured spandex, a rad-looking belt buckle, as well as leather and fur shoulder pads – for that premium ’80s comic book hero look.
There are so many little details to unpack in the trailer but we also get an update look at New Asgard since we last saw it in Avengers: Endgame. King Valkyrie is the new leader after the mantle was passed on by Thor and we see Tessa Thompson having to meet with various world leaders which implies that New Asgard is similar now to Wakanda in that it is a sovereign state.
Thor: Love and Thunder will also introduce the Greek Gods to the MCU as we see Thor traveling to Olympus and the iconic Thunderbolt wielded by Zeus. This is a perfect set up and entry point for Thor: Hercules where their rivalry being fun, weird, and just fantastic which we kind of got a hint at in Thor: Ragnarok.
Speaking of rivalry, we also get some more interaction between Guardians of the Galaxy’s Peter Quill and Thor and the trailer reveals that Thor’s connection with Quill has grown rather deep – in the most humorous way possible. Finally, we see a reforged (sort of) Mjolnir enter the picture as it hurtles towards, and is caught by, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) currently donning her Lady Thor attire.
