There are some big new CPUs coming from AMD and PC enthusiasts don’t have to wait much longer. These absolute beasts will cost a pretty penny, but if you want to build a monster-PC for both gaming and extremely power-hungry tasks, then these might just be the CPUs to look at. AMD has revealed the 12 and 24-Core Ryzen Threadripper 2 CPUs release date and they will be available globally at the end of this month on 29 October 2018.
New Threadripper 2 CPUs
The two new CPUs from AMD are called the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX and the Ryzen Threadripper 2920X respectively. The 2970WX features a whopping 24 physical cores and 48 threads, while the 2920X features 12 physical cores and 24 threads. That does seem extremely impressive and those making use of workstation PC’s with programs like AutoCAD in mind should start saving up.
The 2970WX runs at 3.0 to 4.2 GHz with a whopping 64MB of Cache and supports quad-channel DDR4-2933 memory. The CPU is quite power-hungry coming in at 250 W TDP.It is clearly meant for workstation use.
Then there’s the 2920X with 12 cores running at 3.5 to 4.3 GHz with 32 MB of cache. It also supports quad-channel DDR4-2933 memory and has a TDP of 180 W. If you are looking for a top-end AMD CPU to both work and game on, then this might be the one for you.
Although local pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed, we can look at the pricing in Dollars for these two CPUs. The Threadripper 2970WX’s price is $1,299 and the Threadripper 2920X comes in at a much lower price of $649.
