Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has teased a potential sequel to Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. According to Pitchford, the first game was “wildly successful”, enough that fans should “expect more there.” This tease arrives months after the sequel was already leaked next to Borderlands 4.
Speaking to GamesRadar during San Diego Comic Con, Randy Pitchford stated, “what we demonstrated with the first Wonderlands game was that there’s something there. It was wildly successful and exceeded our expectations.” This was enough for Gearbox to have a potential new franchise on its hands. “We had a bigger result with the first Wonderlands game than we did with the first Borderlands game,” Pitchford continued. “So that’s something we can build on.”
All of this was to be expected, in a way. Back in November 2023, the LinkedIn profile of a former employee at Lost Boys Interactive mentioned that he had previously worked on both Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands 2. Lost Boys Interactive assisted Gearbox Software on the development of the first Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands game as well as other Take-Two titles like WWE 2K23.
Gearbox has yet to officially announce Borderlands 4 either. Older reports and leaks seemed confident that the next mainline Borderlands game would be announced at Summer Game Fest but alas, it was nowhere to be seen.
Apart from leaks, this is the first time that Gearbox has acknowledged a possible sequel or continuation of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. On the other hand, the company already confirmed the existence of Borderlands 4 when it was acquired by Take-Two Interactive back in March this year, stating that the anticipated sequel was in active development. It probably won’t be long before the studio makes official announcements for both projects.
If you still haven’t played it yet, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
