Tomb Raider TV Show Amazon

Tomb Raider TV Show in the Works at Amazon

A new Tomb Raider TV show is apparently in the works at Amazon, including another movie set to star a new actress as Lara Croft. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was tapped to write the upcoming TV show, though details are still sparse about what fans can expect.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Amazon is hard at work on a Tomb Raider TV show set to star a new Lara Croft in an all-new universe. That’s about as much as we know at the moment, though we can probably expect more details to arrive in the coming month. Amazon is also working on a couple of other live-action video game projects right now, including a Fallout TV show from Jonathan Nolan and a God of War TV show.

Tomb Raider‘s success in the movie industry has been mixed, to say the least. Angelina Jolie originally portrayed Lara Croft in the 2000s movies and was taken over by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot. While both franchises didn’t fare well with critics, they made enough money to show that fans still deeply cared about the property and wanted to see it done justice on the big screen. Amazon’s plans for Tomb Raider on the smaller screen is a good step in the right direction, which will hopefully follow the games more closely.

Video game adaptations are beginning to pick up steam, with HBO’s The Last of Us receiving record-breaking viewership numbers on top of being a critical hit with audiences. It was helped by the fact that co-creator Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl showrunner Craig Mazin were at the helm, showing that the right creative talent is needed in order to make an adaptation work and resonate with fans and newcomers.

Hopefully Amazon is taking the right notes from the success of The Last of Us when approaching its new Tomb Raider TV adaptation.
