Variety reports that Sony was originally interested in making the series back in 2019. The show is about a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life. He stumbles upon an opportunity but only if he can deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Along the way, he meets a trigger-happy car thief and faces off against savage marauders who use deadly kitted-out vehicles of destruction to defend themselves. There’s also a deranged clown who drives an ice cream truck. Fans of the video game series will know him quite well. Sweet Tooth is his name and he has been a staple in the series since its debut back in 1995.
Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash said that Twisted Metal is one of PlayStation’s most beloved franchises. “We are thrilled to have such a great team working on bringing the iconic game to life for the fans.”
Michael Jonathan Smith, who recently worked on writing and producing “Cobra Kai” will write and executive produce the series. Reese and Wenrick will also executive produce it.
Will Arnett is also currently set to produce the series along with his production company Electric Avenue. According to early reports, Arnett could also be voicing the iconic Sweet Tooth character in the Twisted Metal series.
The Twisted Metal series marks the second large PlayStation Productions project in recent months. HBO is also currently working on The Last of Us series which just received its lead roles in the form of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.
