Twitter Blue is now available in South Africa for those looking at signing up for the subscription service. For only R2,099 a year (discounted from R2,400 if you purchase it each month), you can get a blue checkmark and make sure your content appears above anyone else who can’t afford to subscribe.
Twitter Blue also comes with some other perks beyond its content prioritisation. Blue members can post longer, higher-quality 1080p videos which are usually limited to 2:20 minutes and 720p. You’ll also be able to edit your Tweets, access Bookmark Folders and opt-in to other early access features which roll out on the service.

Twitter Blue is also implementing a “half the ads” feature soon too where subscribers won’t have to see the same number of ads on their feeds as non-subscribers.
Keep in mind that Twitter Blue’s price in South Africa changes depending on where you’re accessing the app from. According to the iOS Twitter app, the service costs R2,099 a year (billed annually) or R200 a month. However, if you sign-up through a web browser and not the Twitter App, the cost is R1,519 a year (billed annually) or R144.99 per month. So make sure you sign up for the service on a web browser if you’re looking at subscribing. The extra charges likely come from taxes on top of in-app purchases across iOS and Android.
Twitter Blue has been teased for a South African release for some time now. The tab appeared in the app and on web browsers in late 2022 but it was listed as “coming soon”.
