It is pretty ironic that a power-hungry narcissist who throws around Neo-Nazi gestures would get into a social media argument with Ubisoft, the creators of the Assassin’s Creed series. If you have played the game, this whole situation feels right at home with the overarching story of the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Templar Order.
Last night, Elon Musk and Ubisoft butted heads on X where the two accounts were both acting like children on a playground and calling each other out. Musk started the argument by replying to a user who was complaining that an influencer was being paid to advertise the recent Assassin’s Creed Shadows game on Bluesky.
Musk replied to the post saying the user is a fraud, but followed up saying that a “sell-out” is more accurate. He claimed the influencer is promoting a “terrible game just for the money”. Let’s be honest, this isn’t anything new. Most of the time, influencers will advertise whatever they can to make money or score brownie points.
But Ubisoft wasn’t going to take the “terrible game” comment lying down. The studio jabbed back at Musk calling him out for his recent Path of Exile 2 drama saying “is that what the guy playing your Path of Exile 2 account told you?”.
This is obviously a jab at Musk after recent claims that the guy doesn’t even play the games he claims to be so highly levelled in. Instead, he pays people to play them. Path of Exile 2 being one of these games. Musk has since remained silent on the whole story.
Ubisoft then landed the final blow with likely the most fitting and relevant response to the situation. The Assassin’s Creed account shared a cool image with all the assassins saying “Where other men blindly follow the truth… Remember, nothing is true.” I can’t think of a better way to describe the whole situation.
In case you missed it, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has done incredibly well for Ubisoft during its first week on the market. The game reached top spots across all digital stores following the review embargo last week and has since gone on to amass 2 million players.
While X might make it seem like it is the worst game of all time, that is just white noise. The game’s actual and real reviews from players and critics speak otherwise. Across all stores, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is sitting with high 4/5s and 80/100 on Steam.
