Ubisoft Clarifies It’s Not Making a Blade Game – Update

A new Blade game is reportedly in development at Ubisoft, according to a few accidental leaks from one of the game’s motion capture actors. The leaks not only point to a Blade video game being in development, but it also involves the MCU Blade film director Bassam Tariq.

As spotted by ResetEra user Angie recently (via JorRaptor), a motion capture actor named Alex Martin posted a series of photos on Instagram showing the actor alongside another doing mo-cap work for an unknown Ubisoft game. However, one image shows the actor holding a clapperboard clearly marked “Marvel” and “B. Tariq”, with the last bit likely referring to MCU director Bassam Tariq who will direct the upcoming Blade film reboot for Marvel Studios.

If a Blade game is currently in the works at Ubisoft, then it will probably align with the release of the MCU film which is expected to arrive on 3 November 2023. Whether it’s entirely based on it or not remains to be seen.

This comes in light of several leaks which all suggest that Marvel is making bigger pushes into the video game market. Skydance New Media, headed up by Uncharted‘s Amy Hennig, is reportedly working on a Fantastic Four video game, while EA Games is said to be working on both Iron Man and Black Panther video games.

Blade is no stranger to the video game world either. The 1998 film was turned into a PS1 video game in 2000, followed by a Blade II game that was originally released on PS2. Needless to say, both didn’t fare well with critics and fans. There had been no attempts to make a Blade game since then, but it looks like Ubisoft might be picking up that task.

The MCU Blade will star Mahershala Ali as the titular vampire slayer and will also be directed by Bassam Tariq.

UPDATE 22/08: Ubisoft has clarified on Twitter that it’s not actually making a Blade game.
