Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake Ubisoft

Ubisoft Confirms Assassin’s Creed Remakes Are in Development

Ubisoft Yves Guillemot has confirmed that the company is working on “multiple” Assassin’s Creed remakes. While details are scarce regarding which games are being remade, this new announcement aligns with previous reports that an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake is in development.

Yves Guillemot hosted an interview on the Ubisoft website where he discussed Ubisoft’s upcoming portfolio of games. He said the company is continuing to celebrate the open world with upcoming titles such as Star Wars: Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Guillemot also says Ubisoft has taken lessons on GaaS games and what works and what doesn’t. He used Rainbow Six Siege as an example of this. However, when speaking about future projects, Guillemot says the Assassin’s Creed series has multiple new entries in development but also remakes which the team are revisiting.

Guillemot says Ubisoft wants to get more Assassin’s Creed games out more regularly. So the new entries and the remakes allow them to do so. However, he doesn’t want players to experience the same thing each year hinting at the series going back to an annual lineup.

“Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we’ve created in the past and modernize them. There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich. Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin’s Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year.”

He followed up by teasing fans. Guillemot says that Assassin’s Creed Hexe is going to be a “very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows”. He thinks it will surprise players.

“There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin’s Creed Hexe, which we’ve announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin’s Creed Shadows. We’re going to surprise people, I think.”

Last year, it was claimed that Ubisoft had kicked off development on an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake. The report claimed development only began in early 2023 and that the project won’t be completed for at least a few years.

If Ubosoft were to go back to the annual release schedule for the series, we would likely see Shadows launch this year, Hexe next year and perhaps Black Flag in 2026.
