Supermassive Games Unannounced Blade Runner Game Until Dawn Scrapped

Unannounced Blade Runner Game Reportedly Scrapped at Until Dawn Dev

Until Dawn and The Quarry developer Supermassive Games were reportedly working on an unannounced Blade Runner game before it was scrapped. The game was apparently titled Blade Runner: Time To Live and was described as a “character-focused, cinematic action-adventure” title, which seems in line with the cinematic-driven games the studio tends to develop.

According to a new report from Insider Gaming, the unannounced Blade Runner: Time To Live game would’ve been set in 2065 with players assuming the role of the very last Blade Runner named So-Lange. Documents sent to Insider Gaming revealed that it would’ve had a 10-12 hour campaign involving a “compelling story blending the philosophical themes of Blade Runner with kinetic action-adventure gameplay.”

Pre-production on the game reportedly began in September 2024 from most of the team from Supermassive Games that worked on The Quarry, though it didn’t get very far in development. A full release was planned for September 2027 once prototyping concluded in September this year. Interestingly, it was apparently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC as well as the “Gen 10” PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

The gameplay for the cancelled Blade Runner game would’ve included Supermassive’s “authentic, punchy, and poignant” dialogue, though the report also mentioned that it would’ve featured elements of stealth, combat, exploration and investigation. It sounded pretty ambitious for a game from the studio which has mostly developed cinematic-driven choose-your-own-adventure titles in the past.

The description of the game from the documents read:

“Journey from the teeming undercity of New Zurich 2065 to the eerie remnants of the forgotten world beyond. Under orders to retire Rev, the mysterious and ruthless leader of an underground replicant network, you are betrayed and left for dead in a brutally hostile environment.”

Supermassive Games has had a rough couple of years. In February 2024, the studio’s founders announced that they were parting ways with the company. In the same month, at least 90 employees were laid off from the studio. However, Supermassive still has plans to continue its Dark Pictures Anthology games.
