Uncharted 5 Rumours Heat Up – Not Developed by Naughty Dog

Uncharted 5 rumours have started to heat up again following the recent “Live from PS5” ad that may have hinted at a new game. Furthermore, rumours have been circulating for several months now that Naughty Dog will not be developing the next entry. In fact, the studio recently confirmed that it was done with the Uncharted franchise, suggesting that another studio had been given the keys to the IP.

The recent PlayStation ad briefly shows (at 0:43) a woman walking towards a mysterious artefact. She’s wearing gear and hoisting equipment that suggests she’s some kind of explorer. Fans initially believed that this was Lara Croft and a tease for a new Tomb Raider game, but fans were quick to point out that the woman in the ad didn’t resemble Lara. The idea was put forth that this is a grown-up Cassie Drake, the daughter of Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher.

That would make sense given the ending of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which showed a young Cassie taking a particular interest in her father’s past adventures, probably having the same desire to explore uncharted territory. Of course, we can’t say for certain that this is hinting at Uncharted 5, but there’s a good chance that we haven’t heard the end of the Drake legacy yet.

The biggest piece of evidence comes directly from PlayStation. Last October, job listings revealed that Naughty Dog was collaborating with support studio Visual Arts for an unannounced AAA game. Naughty Dog doesn’t appear to be too heavily involved in this mystery project but might be offering supervision for what could be a new Uncharted game. After all, Naughty Dog stated that it’s done with the Uncharted franchise but didn’t rule out the possibility of another studio picking up the mantle.

We can only speculate at this point but the recent PS5 ad might be a bit more revealing than we initially thought. Take this with a pinch of salt for now.
