The upcoming Uncharted movie has been going through a rough time of late. Up to now, it has lost three directors and suffered from two major rewrites. However, it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel as Sony has officially signed Venom director Ruben Fleischer to direct the Uncharted movie. Antonio Banderas has also been announced to have joined the cast as well as Sophia Ali and Tati Gabrielle.

Sony is no doubt ramping up production for the much-delayed film which was meant to open in cinemas in December this year. However, after losing its third director, Sony was forced to delay the production of the Uncharted movie while they searched for a replacement. Variety claims the current screenplay is being handled by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the two minds behind 2008’s Iron Man. It is unclear which roles the new cast will be filling including Antonio Banderas, Ali or Gabrielle.
In early 2020, Bumblebee director Travis Knight dropped out of the film due to scheduling conflicts which forced Sony to move the initial release date for the Uncharted movie from 18 December 2020 to 5 March 2021. It seems the film has finally hit a positive note and with a director and full cast, will soon kick-off production. The film was originally meant to star an older Nathan Drake but was canned in favour for a younger prequel story starring Spider-Man actor Tom Holland.
Tom claims he is a major fan of the series and the film will draw a lot of inspiration from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

But it’s a pretty awesome movie, and it’s global. We travel the world, we see some amazing places, and Mark Wahlberg and I are going to have a great summer together.”
