The support arrived with the newest Unreal Engine 4.25 update. It should help developers as they prepare to launch games for the next-gen consoles. Epic claims that the support is limited for now. However, the company will release “optimizations, fixes, and certification requirements to support developers launching on the next generation of consoles” soon.

The new Unreal Engine update not only brings next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X support but the Niagara visual effect system too. This system was used in Epic’s battle royale Fortnite and has been in beta for years. The visual effect system will now allow developers to make use of the pipeline during game development.

The update also includes “production-ready support” for Microsoft HoloLens 2. Included in 4.25 are enhancements to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics and destruction system. Epic also released improved audio features and more.

The Unreal Engine is one of the most used gaming engines on the market. Games such as Borderlands 3, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Kingdom Hearts III and many more have been built on it. With the PS5 and Xbox Series X on the horizon, it could prove to be the best introduction engine.
