Ballistic Moon, the studio behind the upcoming remake of Until Dawn, has been hit with ‘significant’ layoffs ahead of the game’s release in October. The UK-based company stated that it was making staff cuts to “secure the future” of the studio. It’s unclear how many employees were laid off during the restructuring but the development team will be scaled down quite a bit.
Ballistic Moon released a statement on LinkedIn explaining the layoffs at the company as part of a restructure. The studio says it still remains committed to supporting the Until Dawn remake leading up to October. It’s not known why the decision was made to terminate a ‘significant’ number of its employees. “As the games industry continues to face complex challenges, we at Ballistic Moon are confronted with some difficult realities,” said Ballistic Moon.
The studio statement continues:
“It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that we must make the tough decision to significantly scale down our team to secure the future of our studio. This comes after our development of Until Dawn for PS5 and PC. We want to express our sincere gratitude to every team member for their hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to Ballistic Moon. Saying goodbye to such a talented and passionate group of people is incredibly difficult, and we are profoundly sorry for the impact this restructuring will have on our employees and their families.”
“As we navigate this transition, Ballistic Moon remains focused on supporting the launch of Until Dawn and is committed to exploring new opportunities and collaborations for the future,” the company added.
The Until Dawn remake is a full remake of the 2015 interactive horror game from Supermassive Games, featuring improved visuals, textures, lighting, frame rates and more built in Unreal Engine 5. It’s expected to launch on PS5 and PC on 4 October 2024.
