Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has hit yet another speedbump in its development cycle. This time the project has not only been delayed to 2022 but the game has changed developers completely. This delay marks the second substantial setback for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. In 2020, the game lost its creative director which caused the first delay. Now, with the shift to a new developer, the game’s setback was inevitable. In a statement, Paradox said:
“We have also decided that Hardsuit Labs will no longer be leading the development of Bloodlines 2, and we have started a collaboration with a new studio partner to finish work on the game. This has been a difficult decision, but we are convinced that it is the right way forward to do the game justice.”
The delay may not come as a surprise to many. There’s been talk in recent months about possible drama between Hardsuit Labs and Paradox. While we don’t know who the new developers are behind the project, we will have to wait and see if any insider information appears surrounding the project.
To remove an entire studio from a game is quite a bold move and there had to be something fairly big going on behind the scenes for this to happen. A second statement on the game’s official website further expands on the delay claiming that pre-order for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 have also been stopped for the time being.
The statement thanks Hardsuit Labs for the work on the project.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to honor Hardsuit Labs for their efforts and thank them for their hard work on the project. The studio has done a tremendous job in laying the foundations for the game and we hope that you, the community, will also appreciate their contribution to Bloodlines 2.”
We don’t know if Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will ever see the light of day but things certainly don’t look good.
